Coming up for sale at BRITISH TOY AUCTIONS soon is an early Austin J40 (Junior 40) Pedal Car which dates to about 1967 according to the Austin factory chassis number. These pedal cars were originally built at the Austin Motor Company’s Bargoed factory in South Wales employing approximately 250 former miners who had become unfit through ‘black lungs’ but who were able to participate in this special social employment project. The Austin J40 is based on the popular Austin A40 motor car and went into production from 1950 and features an opening bonnet and boot, imitation engine and spark plugs, a realistic dashboard with instrument panel, faux leather upholstery, handbrake, headlights and much more. With some minor restoration work including a green respray, this particular model is in lovely near complete condition lacking only it’s rear bumper. This item is included as LOT 940 in our Monday 17th March auction and may be viewed by appointment at our Runcorn saleroom.
